Merry Christmas Bruce! Been a couple of days since I checked your blog, you've been keeping busy! Lots of stuff I'm going to check out. Saw in a comment somewhere that you didn't have the cover for Painters & dockers, so here it is:

http://rapidshare.com/
files/79036538/P_DKMA.jpg

It's not the worlds greatest scan, but it looks reasonably OK.
Like you, I find myself going back to 80's stuff. One of the reasons (besides reliving our youth which you're absolutely right about) I think is the freshness of it. Now everything sounds professionally recorded and perfect (unless it's deliberately lo-fi)- and consequently a bit samey and manufactured.

merry Christmas back at ya hank, hope all is good? cheers for the cover

Got a Hummingbirds album being uploaded via the modern miracle of Slow, Wet Piece Of Aussie String at the moment. Will comment again when it's up.

Would Ed Kuepper's "Honey Steel's Gold" be of any interest?

Wet string says it won't be up for a few hours yet.... patience.

By the way, if this Blah post was re-dated to some time in the future, it would always sit at the top of the blog.

bruce said...

hi cobber, learn something new every day. I have honey steals gold, also have butterfly net, electrical storm, serene machine and sings his hits, most of the saints and laughing clowns.....I dig ed....do you want any? I'll post them, let me know

Bruce, you are a dinky-di Legend!

Electrical Storm would be very welcome, and if you've got that Chris Bailey album with Marquis Of Queensberry, I'd be doubly grateful.

Since Ed had 140 minutes still to go on the upload, thanks to wonderful Oz rural internet speed [!@#$* it], I clobbered the upload. Hope to help out with something else later.

I just discovered your blog - lots of great music. Thanks so much. Do you have anything by Voodoo Lust, such as their first (?) single "Shake Shake Yeah Yeah"?

Gidday Bruce

Checking updates on your blog is now the top item on my to-do list each day. I am stunned by how much you upload each night. I'm lovin it !!!!

I would love to see if you (or any of your blog readers) could upload any of that Liberation Blue acoustic series I mentioned a few days ago (eg Baby Animals, Angels, Ian Moss, etc).

Here is Paul Kelly's 1987 album "Under The Sun" for Hank:

Hello everybody, here are a couple of Mutton Birds albums.

First one, divided into two files, is Flock, a best-of collection:

Second one is Rain, Steam & Speed. From 1999 I think:

And yeah, they were an excellent band!

I think I got one or even both of these from theTuneLovinJackets blog, a very good place for powerpop(pish) stuff, well worth a visit.

Take care, and thanks everyone for the great music that keeps on coming.

Thanks to Bruce and the rest of the contributors, my Bats and Mutton Birds education is increasing day by day.

Happy New Year Bruce and everybody else! Nursing a major hangover...

So this 1992 mini-album from Jeremy Oxley kind of suits my mood today... excellent songwriting - as one would expect - on a bunch of melancholy, reflective tracks.

Anybody know if he has released more solo stuff? If so, it would be most welcome.

Anonymous said...

Oh yeah, the link...

Not quite myself today, sorry...

Anonymous said...

And continuing the Jeremy Oxley theme, here's a recording of The Sunnyboys from a brief reunion tour in 1991. This CD came packaged with a second disc, a reissue of their 1st EP from 1981, so I've included that as well. Apparently the master tapes for that had been lost, so the CD was mastered direct from vinyl, which means there's a bit of snap, crackle and pop. But, hey, that only adds to the experience in this case, don't you think?

Paul Kelly related news.

"Welcome to Paul Kelly's A-Z downloads page. Paul is giving away live recordings of many of his songs, starting at 'A' and going through a different letter each month."

My wife just put me on to this. Paul Kelly has downloadables on his site. You do have to sign up for a newsletter, but what the heck, I'm a fan and I buy his albums/tickets, so it's a bonus far as I'm concerned.

Secondly two sites which would interest everyone here:

And if you can help, I'm looking for the Midnight oil tribute album, as well as the Sunnyboys tribute and any releases from Jeremy Oxley (thanks to Hank for uploading one). Also, as noted earlier I'm after the Jim Moginie album which included the Fuzz Face ep and The Hunting Party release which included Chris Abraham, Bones Hillman, and Martin Rotsey.

bruce said...

Firstly many thanks Mailee for the contribution... and I respect your request about the intentions of the original uploader. But I ask the question ... why upload something on to the net if you put restrictions on it's usage? The net is freedom of speech and thought in it's most pristine form. I don't know how old or the background of people using this site, but I grew up in Queensland during the Joh regime, when you could not have peaceful assembly, where there was no freedom of speech, I marched in the protests, I took beatings from the pigs... but we won, the government fell and honesty and respect returned. Five years ago I left Australia because of the censorship and gestapo tactics of the Howard government... Australia was becoming a police state.. I hope that commonsense will return with the new government. I live in Thailand where web sites are closed down if they disagree with the government.I will not post any files you ask to be kept private, but this site has NO CENSORSHIP , NO RESTRICTIONS, people feel free to post, to share, any music I post on this site....no one owns music.. spread the beauty and freedom of music

Paul Kelly - Wanted Man (for Hank)

http://sharebee.com/bff1084a

mialee said...

There are those who record the live shows then seed these by users connecting directly to their computers. Many of these people frown upon anyone who compresses their original recordings and without their initial efforts we wouldn't have the opportunity to listen to these great shows. Those of you who use bit torrents would be well aware of this but due to many peoples limited bandwith, I have in this instance compressed the files into an mp3 format for yourself and others to listen to.
There really isn't any issue
about restrictions or censorship, its just that uploading files in excess of 1 Gig (in this instance) is not an option for me to do at the moment. Many users actually state on their info pages to copy and share freely but don't compress so for that reason I'm only trying to cover myself by adding the disclaimer.
I hope this clears up your concerns.

Nice pic of you and the kids! Must be fun working with children. They make you realize what's really important in life, if that doesn't sound too pretentious. My life certainly changed completely when when my daughter was born.

Nice Rain Parade post! The live album and Demolition were new to me, many thanks!

Fans of Matt Piucci's guitar playing might want to check out this album:

http://rapidshare.com/files/
81442005/Left_For_Dead.zip

It's an album by Crazy Horse from 1990, with Talbot and Molina joined by Piucci and some guy called Sonny Mone on lead vocals. Not really fond of Mone's singing, he sounds like he would be more at home in a metal band, but the songs aren't bad, and it has a lot of nice guitar playing by Piucci. And Talbot and Molina's sloppy-but-together rhythm section, of course.

Sorry, no Falling Joys here, apart from (I think) the Lockit EP in a box of cassettes somewhere in the very back of the machinery shed.

We have had some excellent female-fronted bands on the Oz/NZ scene: Clouds, Falling Joys, Headless Chickens (just to name a few), as well as the solo artists.

I'll have a scratch around the shelves and see what I can find, maybe tomorrow.

Currently uploading JJJ Hottest 100 5 CD2 via soggy piece of wool at about 10Kb/sec.

They remind me a bit of Died Pretty, another favourite. Do you have any of their later albums - Medication Time, Deeper, Using My Gills... or Everyday Dream?

About the requests.. Mel's I'm not familiar with at all...
but I do have the Deadly Hume album that Paolo wanted. Only it's vinyl.. I've been planning to digitize some old stuff but I haven't gotten around to it yet. Lack of time and somewhere to put the old turntable... but it will happen soon...
So Paolo, check back every once in a while, patience may pay!

mel, glad i could help with the ned collette - i've never heard of him to be honest. may have to have a listen

bruce .. here is a search tip for you:

cut and paste the link below, go to it and save it in your favourites:

http://blogsearch.google.com/blogsearch?hl=en&num=100&c2coff=1&lr=&safe=off&ie=UTF-8&q=rapidshare-de-files+%7C+www-megaupload-com+%7C+sendspace-com-file+%7C+rapidshare-de-files+%7C+yousendit-com+%7C+filefront-com+%7C+badongo-com+%7C+www-turboupload-com+%7C+www-megaupload-com+%7C+sendspace-com-file+album&btnG=Search+Blogs

whenever you open this URL, go into the actual search line, remove the word album and instead add in what you are looking for (I usually do this in inverted commas" .. either the name of an album, or the name of the band

the click either Search Blogs or Search The Web

this works pretty well, and helps find great blogs also.

sometimes I simply go to Google and add the following:
"[name of album/band]" ".rar"
OR ".zip"

or, use torrents. seems to be less obscure stuff that way though

what other tips are out there?

There was a request for some Clouds, so here's a fairly complete discography.

Starting with:

Pre-Raphaelite LP - Released in 1996 as a bonus disk to the remastered Penny Century LP. This album comprises all of the Clouds pre-debut album EPs and single b-sides. As such, contains the tracks from the CLOUDS EP (Oct 1990), LOOT EP (April 1991), HIERONYMUS Single (Sept 1991), ANTHEM Single (March 1992) and SAY IT Single (Sept 1992).

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=PYXJDUYW

Penny Century LP - Originally released in October 1991, then remastered and re-released in 1996, this is the remastered version (containing SOULEATER track, omitted from vinyl release).

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=3KF0QE47

Octopus Mini-LP - Released in October 1992, a cracking release.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=W8T9IYO8

Thunderhead LP - Released October 1993. Pointless trivia: The track Domino appears to have a male vocalist, but this is actually Jodi singing. The band were mucking around during mixing and slowed the track right down to see what it would sound like - the result amused them and they kept it. The record company were not impressed as they had planned for Domino to be a leading single.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=QX7ZBN58

Beetroot EP - Released October 1994.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=0U2SRHXI

Aquamarine EP - Released August 1995.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=FMSD2BCJ

Panel Van EP - Released November 1995.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=8P24OO5D

Futura LP - Released November 1996. I've never understood why so many people are down on this record. It's not their best, but I think it's still cracking.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=1T6PNKZJ

So that's it, a fairly big slab of the amazing Clouds. Jodi's solo records are all amazing and I would urge you to seek them out. Similarly, Tim Oxley's are also brilliant. The girls reformed and released one official EP as The Girls From The Clouds and then disbanded. Tim and Jodi are now playing around the traps as Roger Loves Betty, wonderful stuff.

I would love it if anyone had any of the following to complete the collection:
Say It single.
Bower of Bliss single.
Alchemy's Dead single
Here Now single
Never Say Forever single.
AND THE SECOND (LIVE) DISK FROM THEIR BEST-OF RECORD 'FAVOURITES).

I'll post some Falling Joys and Hummingbirds shortly. Thanks for all the great posts!

While I'm here, does anyone know if that Blackeyed Susans boxset is coming out any time soon?? I've struggled to find their records.
